Showroom #003: 9 August 2021
Great submissions from the community, the first featured listing from the blockdomains/ portfolio, and key details about the upcoming Handshake IDN auction.
After a slight hiatus, we are pleased to be back with the third installment of the showroom. Thanks as always for the great submissions from the community and please keep them coming!
One of the top picks in today’s showroom is a single-character Korean domain. In addition to this being a fantastic TLD, it provides an opportunity to highlight a major upcoming event in the Handshake ecosystem. We at blockdomains/ are thrilled to join Shakestats in hosting the first-ever live secondary market auction for Handshake internationalized domain names (IDNs). As awareness of IDNs has increased, so have auction competitiveness and secondary market sales trends. Thanks to great Shakestats data, the blockdomains/ blog will explore some of these trends during the run-up to the auction. Please visit the auction website to register, submit names, and view other details.
Today’s featured TLDs are as follows:
Double emoji sales have tapered slightly following the heavy volume of early and mid-summer. Rather than a lack of demand, though, it’s likely that with so many pairs having traded, many near-term sellers have simply exhausted their inventory while current owners maintain a long-term horizon. These doubles (and a few triples to boot) are offered by @blackflagdomain, with whom the author has personally transacted. Quality one-of-one doubles in the four-figure (HNS) range are hard to come by these days—get them while they’re still available!
notecard/ is a fantastic TLD with some highly relevant recent comparable sales, in particular handbook/, which legacy domain giant Michael Cyger sold for 9,999 HNS. notecard/ resonates across contexts and demographics – possible applications include organization/time management tools, study aids such as for test prep or foreign languages, and limitless others. The domain is listed for 8,500 on Namebase, and interested parties may purchase or submit offers via Namebase or can contact the seller through blockdomains/ as an intermediary. The same owner has listed hacksaw/ for sale at 2,000 HNS.
5280/ is the number of feet in a mile as well as a reference to Mile High City – Denver, Colorado. The seller has included the fitting 5,280 HNS pricing advisory; offers can be submitted through Namebase, or DM via Twitter (@TheBrutman) or Discord (MrPhintastic#6409).
gunpowder/ is the first domain from the blockdomains/ portfolio to be included in a showcase mailing, as it was imperative for the first issues to highlight TLDs from the community. Offers starting in the mid-four figures will be entertained. The author can be reached via DM on Twitter at @HNSworldwide.
The final featured TLD of this issue is a Korean single character: ᄎ(xn--dqd), which is the consonant chieuch. The Korean language uses Hangul (the Korean alphabet), which is comprised of 24 phonetic characters. At this time, the market for single, non-Latin characters is unproven, but even the most casual Handshake observers are aware of the premium placed on single character TLDs. This is the second ShakeDex listing featured in the showroom. The Dutch auction will commence soon after this post is published with a starting price of 25,000 HNS and an ending price of 20,000 HNS.
Thanks to all readers and subscribers for your continued support of this mailing list and for all of the ways that each community member contributes to Handshake. Please continue to submit names for inclusion in the next issue, and be sure to register for and help spread the word regarding the upcoming IDN auction!
